Price: £139

The No.253 is a complex and intricate timepiece designed as a homage to the great advancements in engineering during the Victorian era. The dial itself is based on the wheel of a steam train, a beautiful and often overlooked piece of design.

Camden was once a hive of railway activity, receiving goods from the empire and distributing them via canal boats and steam trains all over the country.

This became the focus for designing the key feature of the dial, the raised index platform. Inspiration was taken from what is arguably one of the most overlooked yet beautiful elements on a steam train: the wheel.

The dial has luminous indexes, triangular studs and stencil numbers on the platform, which both lend robustness to the design. Much like on Victorian steam trains, the design had to be practical, but that didn’t mean that it couldn’t also be beautiful.

The platform sits on a background embellished with a square motif and is surrounded by a dial ring to reinforce the industrial design.

The watch features a 41mm stainless steel case and a black leather strap.

A gold watch with a purple face

The Camden Watch Company No.27 GMT Gold and Gold Mesh
Stockist: www.camdenwatchcompany.com
Price: £185

Extending on their popular No.27 GMT design, The Camden Watch Company has gone bold purple on the dial of this new timepiece.

The No.27 GMT Edition is an homage to the rich maritime history of Greenwich and Great Britain in general. In 1880, Greenwich Mean Time became the legal standard time across the island of Great Britain and has since become the time upon which all other time zones across the globe are based.

The dial features a high gloss finish reminiscent of the enamel dials found on old maritime clocks and pocket watches, which, together with the high contrast printing, ensures that the watch not only looks great but is also easy to read. The red hand points to the outer 24-hour GMT track, leaving you in no doubt as to what time it is ‘back home’. The clean lines of the Roman numerals keep the watch looking modern, while the old-school typography of the numbers and the subtle curved edge of the dial ensure that it keeps its classic Camden Watch Co. vintage flair.

The watch features a 37mm gold-plated PVD stainless steel case along with a soft gold-plated mesh strap.
