5 engagement ring trends for 2024

With the festive season being the most popular time of year that couples choose to pop the question, it's no surprise that internet searches for 'engagement ring' have been steadily increasing the last six months as we head towards the new year.

Luxury diamond jewellers, Diamonds Factory, have used Pinterest Trends data from the last six months (4th April 23' - 26th September 23') to find out which engagement ring styles are set to be big in 2024...

Search term - percentage increase

  • Silver engagement rings 100%
  • Radiant engagement ring 92%
  • Vintage engagement rings 82%
  • Gemstone engagement rings 45%
  • Princess cut engagement ring 34%

When it comes to the colour of the band, silver is set to be the most popular option, with a search increase of 100% in the last six months. Radiant and Princess are looking likely to be the cuts of choice in 2024, with search increases of 92% and 34% respectively. However, these are not necessarily related to diamonds, as it looks like gemstones will be favoured over standard white diamonds.

Style-wise, those planning to propose might want to reach for a family heirloom to woo their lover in 2024, as vintage engagement rings are set to be on trend, with searches increasing by 82% in the last six months.

What engagement ring styles are out in 2024?
  • Search term - percentage increase
  • Marquise engagement ring -2.5%
  • Solitaire engagement ring -5%
  • Cushion cut engagement ring -9%
  • Pear-shaped engagement rings -33%
2024 looks to bid farewell to a number of diamond and gemstone cuts, particularly the pear cut, which has lost a huge -33% search interest in the last six months. And, interestingly, the traditional solitaire-style engagement ring seems to have lost its appeal with a search decrease of -5% in the last six months.

Aimee Howlett, Spokesperson for Diamonds Factory said, "Looking at the data, we have definitely seen an increase in requests for Radiants as we approach Q4 of this year, primarily the elongated rectangular versions, compared to some of the squarer ones, and similarly so with silver engagement rings. However, rather than silver metal, we've seen people opting for silver-coloured products such as white gold and platinum. So these are both trends that I can definitely see continuing to grow as we move into 2024.

"Whilst we always recommend choosing a ring that is suited to your partner and their preferences, trends are a helpful starting point for those who are unsure on what ring to choose.

"Bespoke, one-off, made-to-orders are also being requested more and more, and these are great for those who don't wish to follow trends and already know what they want. And, for those that want to go big, but don't want to break the bank, lab-created diamonds make for a great value purchase for those of us that are more price driven."
