Following the success of her own 2022 wedding at Sefton Park Palm House, the supremely talented winner of this year's BBC Interior Design Masters competition, Roisin Quinn, is here with tips on how to inject colour into your big day.

Never one to shy away from a splash of colour (or print, or pattern), Roisin decided her big day wasn't going to be vanilla (or magnolia).

"I infused vibrant colours into every aspect of my wedding, creating a lively and memorable celebration. The bridesmaid dresses were a beautiful blend of coral hues, setting a joyful tone from the start. The floral arrangements, by my cousin; Costello's Floral Design, were a stunning mix of blooms, adding bursts of color throughout the venue and enhancing the romantic atmosphere.

"The décor was thoughtfully curated to include colourful accents that tied everything together seamlessly. The tablescapes featured elegant settings with vibrant centerpieces, creating a visually captivating dining experience for our guests. Even the invitations reflected our colourful theme, offering a preview of the vibrant celebration to come.

"Incorporating as much colour as possible was crucial for me, as it reflected our personalities and the joy of the occasion. However, I was mindful to balance the vibrant palette with sophisticated and elegant touches, ensuring the overall look remained cohesive and refined."

In fact, the elaborate wedding clearly highlighted Roisin’s innate talent for interior design and styling, prompting friends and family to encourage a career change - the rest, as they say, is history!

Here are Roisin's top five tips for going bold on your big day!

1. Remove the pressure of planning a traditional wedding and focus on selecting elements that genuinely make you happy and bring you joy.
Think of it as organizing a fun, memorable party rather than a formal event. By prioritizing your own happiness and the enjoyment of your guests, you'll find that everything naturally falls into place, creating a celebration that truly reflects your personality and style.

2. Begin with the venue - walk around it and envision what would work best in the space and complement its features.
The versatility of my venue allowed for any colour palette to shine, so I incorporated a variety of hues. However, the main colours that stood out were pink, coral, and orange, creating a vibrant and harmonious atmosphere.

3. Be bold with your bouquet and envision the bigger picture.
While many people tend to stick to one or two colours for their wedding, a bouquet bursting with a variety of hues can be truly captivating. Use your favourite bouquet as inspiration to see how different colours can harmonize beautifully, bringing your vision to life in a vibrant and cohesive way.

4. Be playful with peek-a-boo colour.
I wore hot pink platform heels for a playful pop of colour that peeked out when I lifted my dress or twirled around. This subtle yet striking choice added a fun and vibrant touch to both my outfit and the overall wedding aesthetic.

5. Infuse colour into your wedding through the bridesmaid dresses.
Choose colours and styles that you would feel comfortable wearing yourself, even to other formal events. I opted for a versatile two-piece ensemble with a halter top and skirt, which can be easily repurposed for different occasions. The skirt pairs beautifully with other tops, and the halter top looks great with jeans. I selected a warm coral color, which is not only stunning but also versatile enough to be dressed up or down and suitable for any season.

"Your wedding is a true celebration of love and bringing your loved ones together. It should reflect you both as a couple. Don't be afraid to go bold with your colour scheme and flowers, people have this misconception that for a wedding it should be full of neutral colours so it's sophisticated and romantic, for me that's boring, you can still achieve this with colour as well as adding in that surprise element. Stand out and make sure your day is one for you and your guests to remember forever. I wanted to create the wow factor for my guests and that's exactly what they got." - Roisin Quinn
